Ingredients

For the Chicken Marinade

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed tangerine juice Use fresh tangerines for the best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon tangerine zest
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil

For Cooking

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water To mix with cornstarch.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Marinating the Chicken

  • In a bowl, combine the tangerine juice, tangerine zest, soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. Whisk well to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  • Place the chicken breasts in a sealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring it coats each piece evenly. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more intense flavor.

Cooking the Chicken

  • Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  • Cook the chicken breasts for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until they are fully cooked and have nice grill marks. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C).
  • While the chicken cooks, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Slowly add this to the marinating sauce while stirring. Continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove the chicken from the grill or skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes. Slice the chicken into strips.
  • Drizzle the thickened tangerine sauce over the sliced chicken and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

For a spicier kick, consider adding chopped red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the marinade. If not using chicken, substitute with firm tofu. Additional vegetables can be added during the cooking process for extra nutrition.
